A Case of Fraud: My Full Deduction Walkthrough Guide

Updated: November 12, 2025  ·  Reading time: ~8 min

When I first played A Case of Fraud, I realized pretty quickly that this wasn’t a typical puzzle game where you just plug in answers. Every piece of evidence tells a story, sometimes quietly, sometimes loudly, and the fun is in connecting those stories.

So instead of just listing the solutions, this guide walks you through how I got to each conclusion and why it makes sense.

If you’re stuck on a deduction, this should help you understand the reasoning behind every answer, without spoiling more than you want to know.

Tutorial – Christine’s Family

This opening section teaches the basics of linking evidence. You’ll start by solving the identities of six people in Christine Pelham’s household. Remember: where you found an item is just as important as what it says.

Christine Pelham

Her name is already filled in, and yes, that’s correct. You just need her photo, which you’ll find in the Business News article.

The Pet

The Business News mentions that Christine owns a Labrador. You’ll find a Dog Daycare Report Card for a Labrador named Piper — same breed, same owner. Later notes even show Christine using “Piper” in a password, so this one’s confirmed.

The Husband

An anniversary card addressed to Christine (signed “Rich”) includes a photo of a man with her. A letter addressed to Mr. Ball and Mrs. Pelham gives us his surname: Richard Ball.

The Son

A diving trip permission form lists Daniel Cholmondeley Ball, signed by C. Pelham as his parent. His photo is on the school photo order form — same signature, same school.

The Daughter

A note from C.P. to Cathy mentions Sarah’s school supplies, and her name appears again in a Classifieds exchange that reads like a mom and daughter talking. Her photo is in School News, showing Sarah Ball. The schedule note about Sarah’s recital also fits.

The Girlfriend

Christine asked Cathy to “check up on Dan’s girlfriend,” who turns out to be Perdita “Dita” Lyons — confirmed through Cathy’s note and a letter from Mr. and Mrs. Lyons. The “lion” emojis in Dita’s social profile hint directly at her surname.

West Desks (Part 1)

Now the deductions open up. The office layout is your main clue: items on each desk relate to whoever works there. Let’s start piecing together who’s who.

Rebecca Cook

Her name’s on several documents, and her ID card gives both her photo and title: CTO.

Emails mention her prescription for Zolpidem (sleeping pills), and personal letters reference her daughter Aria and pet Smoky, details that’ll matter later.

Omar Sharaf

You’ll find his MBA degree and a note from Christine asking for a department report. Checking the organization chart shows that Sales and Advertising fall under the CMO, which matches Omar’s position.

A note in green handwriting (the same as on his memo) mentions booking Marvolo’s checkup. His “Marvolo and Me” photo confirms both Omar’s face and his cat’s name.

East Desks (Finance Department)

This section houses the finance team. You’ll identify three people here.

Michael Chambers

You’ll find his dating profile and chat logs, both showing the name Michael Chambers. He’s in the “Admins Chat” group, confirming his role as Finance Admin.

Samantha “Sam” Rees

An email celebrating her promotion introduces Sam as the new Accountant.

A letter addressed to Sam and Alfie confirms her pet’s name (Alfie, the turtle).

You’ll find a coded note on her desk that, when decoded by replacing symbols with phonetic initials, reads “Wow Sam Rees, you are so hot!, Holly,” revealing her surname.

Raymond Marzocco

The family photo belongs to the last finance member, Raymond. The surname appears in the photo frame. Since Sam was promoted and Michael is the Admin, Raymond is the Senior Accountant.

West Desks (Part 2)

Time to finish identifying the remaining names linked to the West section.

Smoky

The cat poster in the kitchen with “Smoky” belongs to Rebecca Cook, matching the earlier birthday card from Bill, Aria, and Smoky.

Cathie’s Guinea Pigs

The same poster mentions Cathy’s guinea pigs.

In side conversations, Holly refers to “Beryl,” while Paul jokes about “Errol being a bad dad.”

That confirms both names — Beryl (female) and Errol (male).

Central Desks (Marketing Department)

There are six desks here — that’s your entire marketing team.

Ivan Johnstone

Notes addressed to Ivan and documents printed by him confirm the name.

A message in Holly’s chat — “Is Pavel Johnstone your bro?” — reveals his surname.

His passport application (printed by himself) gives the photo.

He’s part of the Admins Chat, identifying him as the Marketing Admin.

Peter Kettle

The “Employee of the Month” poster provides Peter’s face.

Emails link him with Omar (CMO) and show he works in Advertising.

The Talent Release Form lists his full name and confirms his pet’s name — Ariadne, a parrot.

The mug reading “For Peter, love from David” ties him to his husband, David.

Sales Team

The staff expenses sheet gives first names and commission details for:

  • John (Lead)
  • Caroline (Senior)
  • Hugh (Intermediate)
  • Pippa (Junior)

You can confirm:

  • John Chan (from Ignite Leadership doc)
  • Hugh Lemington (business card)
  • Caroline Jones (email from Peter referencing her “taking the surname”)
  • Pippa Wallace (Talent Release Form; owns Sapphire, a Tonkinese cat)

Their group photo in the kitchen shows them all celebrating, Caroline with blonde hair and glasses, Hugh in a black turtleneck (matching the “Steve Jobs” comment), and the rest identifiable by process of elimination.

NE Desks (Coralie’s Team)

Rebecca’s email to Holly confirms that this area is Coralie Kerr’s development team.

Coralie Kerr

Her Zoolingo Monthly Spotlight poster shows her face and mentions her dog, Agatha. The matching dog news article confirms her surname and pet’s name.

Paul Verdi

A volunteer badge shows his face. His chats confirm his surname and job: Product Owner.

Minnie Smythe

Referenced in chats as a developer from the “Git Gud” team and named in a Keynote poster as Senior Developer Minnie Smythe.

Martin Perrott

Appears as the First Aider on a poster and is listed as a trainee in a first aid training email — confirming both photo and surname.

Holly Khan

We’ve seen her name before giving advice in chats.

She’s shown on the Fire Warden poster, confirming her face.

Rebecca’s email mentions she works with both development teams, marking her as the Technical Admin.

A hidden code from Sam’s “Very Important Graph” decrypts to “I love Holly Khan.”

The rabbit “Hester” from the “H+H to Sam and Alfie” letter is her pet.

NW Desks (Ryan’s Team)

The opposite development group is DataBaes, led by Ryan.

Ryan Bridges

His personal site (and ChainedIn post) confirms his photo and full name.

He’s the team lead for DataBaes.

Jacob Chan & Felicia Smith-Hett

Both are credited as data scientists on an academic paper.

Felicia’s birthday invitation confirms her surname and gives her photo.

She’s newly graduated, so she’s the Junior Data Scientist, making Jacob the Senior one.

Charlotte Giles

Paul’s chat identifies Charlotte as a Product Owner, and her “Yoga and Mindfulness” poster confirms her photo.

Her surname comes from her ChainedIn handle, @AgileGiles.

Melissa Lee

Referenced by surname in Michael’s chat and seen in the team’s group photo as the remaining woman.

Felicia’s horse, Plum, appears in the horse photo on NW desks, connecting to her chat with Paul.

The Case of Fraud – Final Deduction

Now that everyone’s identified, it’s time to solve the actual crime.

The Key Timeline

  • Christine was drugged with Zolpidem — a drug Rebecca was prescribed.
  • Rebecca lost both her pills and access card after seeing her “friend” Benjamin Mansell on Friday night.
  • Security logs show Rebecca’s card being used at 4:44 p.m. that day — but Rebecca’s smartwatch proves she never entered the building.
  • The same card was used again later from inside without triggering the exit sensors.

That means the card (and the thief) were already inside.

The only person in the building with Christine at that time was Ben.

The Money Trail

  • A transfer was authenticated using Christine’s fingerprint ID at 6:07 p.m.
  • At that moment, her smartwatch showed a sharp heart rate drop — she was already unconscious.
  • The only way this transfer could happen is if Ben physically moved her hand to authenticate it.

So Ben drugged Christine using the stolen Zolpidem, transferred the money under her name, and killed her to cover it up.

Supporting Clues

  • The fake email uses double spaces after periods — a writing quirk Ben shares in his own messages.
  • Piper the dog recognized the smell of a cow-filled farm.
The company retreat notes show Ben owns such a farm — further linking him to the scent report.

Final Answers

  • Security Camera Sequence: Benjamin → Benjamin → Christine & Piper → Richard → Benjamin
  • Cause of Death: Benjamin Mansell
  • Who Has the Missing Money: Benjamin Mansell

By the time I pieced it all together, I realized how neatly the game hides its logic in small details, writing quirks, timestamps, misplaced pills. The motive wasn’t complex; greed and revenge rarely are.

But the process of connecting each thread is where A Case of Fraud really shines.
