Renee’s Request Fish Porridge Guide Crimson Desert (Bug Fix / What Actually Works)

Updated: March 21, 2026  ·  Reading time: ~3 min

So I just ran into this while doing faction quests and yes, this one is a bit misleading if you follow the quest text blindly. Posting this because it genuinely wasted my time for a bit, and I can already see a lot of players getting stuck here.

This is for Renee’s Request, the quest you pick up from the town quest board where you’re asked to cook fish porridge using the ingredients she gives you.

The Problem with This Quest

The quest looks simple. Renee gives you ingredients and tells you to cook Fish Porridge. So naturally, you go to the bonfire, scroll through the recipes, find “Fish Porridge,” craft it, and expect to turn it in.

But when you go back to her, nothing happens.

The quest doesn’t update, doesn’t complete, and it basically feels like you didn’t do anything. At first I thought I missed a step or cooked it wrong, but that’s not the issue.

The problem is the quest text itself.

The Actual Correct Recipe

Modest Fish Porridge

What the quest doesn’t tell you is that you need to cook a specific variant:

Modest Fish Porridge

Not the regular one.

There are multiple porridge variants in the cooking menu, and the game doesn’t clarify which one is required. The quest just says “Fish Porridge,” but internally it’s checking for the modest version only.

If you craft the normal Fish Porridge, it will not count at all.

How to Complete Renee’s Request Properly

Here’s exactly what worked for me after figuring it out:

  • Pick up Renee’s Request from the quest board in town
  • Take the ingredients provided by Renee
  • Head to a bonfire or cooking station
  • Open the cooking menu and carefully look through the porridge options
  • Select Modest Fish Porridge
  • Craft it and return to Renee

As soon as I had the modest version in my inventory, the quest completed instantly when I spoke to her.

What to Do If You Already Messed Up

If you’ve already crafted the regular Fish Porridge, unfortunately it doesn’t convert and it doesn’t count toward the quest.

You basically have two options:

  • Reload your save if you’re still early in the quest
  • Go out and gather the ingredients again and craft the correct version

Personally, I’d recommend reloading if possible, because tracking down the ingredients again can take longer than just resetting.

Extra Tip (Worth Doing While You’re There)

Since you’re already at the cooking station and have the setup ready, it’s actually worth crafting a few extra bowls of the correct porridge.

Food is pretty useful overall, so making 2–3 extra while you’re there isn’t a bad idea at all. It saves you another trip later.

Why This Happens

This looks like a classic case of either a bug or unclear labeling. The quest text says one thing, but the actual requirement is tied to a different item variant.

It might get fixed later, but for now, just assume that if a cooking quest isn’t progressing, there’s a good chance it’s expecting a specific variant rather than the base recipe.

Once you know the trick, this quest is super straightforward. But yes, if you don’t know about the “Modest” version, it’s easy to get stuck and waste materials.
